Chunky Crochet Cord Bracelet

June 8, 2017 in Accessories, Crochet, Free Patterns

Hey Everyone!

I’ve got a trendy new accessory you can whip up with your crochet hook today! These chunky crochet cord bracelets are great for both kids and adults alike. They are quick to make and can be made in a variety of colors. They can be dressed up with bracelet end cap closures or stacked together for layers of fun color combinations. It truly is an accessory to be customized exactly as you want it!

Quick, easy and fashionable crochet bracelets

If you’re looking for an easy project to make and sell at summer craft fairs or something to match your favorite summer dress, tank top or blouse, this is the accessory for you! Plus, they are so fast and easy to whip up! In an hour’s time, you can whip up 2 or 3 of them (though once you start you’ll want to make tons more).

Have I sold you on them yet?? Great! On to the pattern!

Pattern Notes

The pattern has directions for 2 different size bracelets. The sizing difference can be seen in the circumference of the cord, not in the length. Follow the directions in the pattern for the thinner bracelet or adjust the stitch count to match the number in the brackets [ ] for a wider bracelet. Want an even chunkier cord? Simply increase the stitch count and continue following the pattern instructions using the stitch count you chose.

The length I used for my crochet cord bracelet works well for those with large wrists. I crocheted a length of 8 1/2 inches for the sewn bracelet and 8 inches for the end cap bracelet. Below is a general guide for how long your crochet cord should be to fit different wrist sizes. If that doesn’t suit you, the best way to get an accurate fit is to measure your own wrist or a bracelet you have that fits well with a tape measure. Lastly, you can always try it on as you go and make it longer or shorter to find your best fit. Make sure to allow some additional length for the bracelet to stretch over your hand (ideal for the sewn ends version).

Pattern Instructions

  1. Rnd 1: Create a magic ring. Ch 1. Sc 3[4] in ring. Pull magic ring closed. Do not join.
  2. Rnd 2: Sc in back loop of next 3[4] stitches.
  3. Rnd 3 and subsequent rounds: Turn the stitches of the piece upward so the RS is facing inward and WS is facing outward. Sc in the 3rd horizontal bar on the outside (WS) of the next stitch. Repeat in every stitch until the bracelet measures the desired length.
  4. Final Rnd: Sl st into 3rd horizontal bar in next 3[4] stitches. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew ends together.

Sewing the Ends together

With the long tail of yarn and your tapestry needle, hold the ends of the crochet cord together and begin sewing along the edges using either the whip stitch or mattress stitch. Bind off and weave the ends into the bracelet.

Adding End Caps (Optional)

Metal end caps can really knock this bracelet up a few notches, going from cute to fabulous! Plus, it’s especially easy to do!

If you want to, go ahead and weave your ends in or simply leave them and stuff them in the bracelet end cap (if you do, make sure to cut the length of your ends down to an inch or two though). First, insert a reasonable (not too generous) amount of hot glue or craft glue into the end cap. Next, insert one end of the crochet cord, making sure to stuff in as much length as possible to allow the glue to adhere to the end as best as possible. Allow to dry, then repeat with the second end cap on the opposite end of the crochet cord.
